The Dutch Swing College Band was one of the finest Dixieland-oriented bands in Europe during the 1950s and '60s. Led by baritonist Peter Schilperoort, the septet stars cornetist Oscar Klein on this excellent LP. Despite the title, the music is strictly American, except for a jazz adaptation of Chopin's "Opus 5" that had originally been written by Charlie Shavers for the John Kirby Sextet two decades earlier. Highlights of the fine set include "South Rampart Street Parade," "Freeze An' Melt," "Carry Me Back to Old Virginny" and "Jazz Me Blues."
