Lil' Keke's debut album,
Don't Mess Wit Texas, is an entertaining, bass-heavy gangsta record. Like most of his Southern-based contemporaries,
Lil' Keke spends more time working a groove than with his lyrics, which makes
Don't Mess Wit Texas sound like a party record, not a hardcore mission statement. And that's not a bad thing, since he has more rhyming skill and personality than many of his bass-devoted peers, two attributes that mark him as a promising rapper well worth watching. ~ Leo Stanley
