During a two-day period in 1981, drummer
Andrew Cyrille played a pair of duo concerts, one with altoist
Jimmy Lyons and the one contained on this CD, with the synthesizers of
Richard Teitelbaum. A set of free-form improvisations that emphasize sound explorations, the latter collaboration comes across essentially as a long
Cyrille drum solo joined by
Teitelbaum's bizarre electronic sounds. Although some of the textures are colorful, much of the playing seems rather random, aimless and ultimately pointless. One can understand getting into this music live in concert, where one can see the musicians creating the sounds, but there is no real reason to put on this rather dull CD a second time.
