Django Reinhardt = Genius. This album? No exception. DOUCE AMBIANCE is a collection of sides by Django's late-1940s ensembles Souvenirs De Django Reinhardt and Le Quintette du Hot Club de France (a later incarnation; not the one with Stephane Grappelli). Each ensemble features a line-up of twin guitars, clarinet, bass, and drums, and the intimate, acoustic feel of these recordings allows the true brilliance of the instrumentalists (especially Reinhardt) to shine. The music is fun, dazzling, nostalgic, slightly dirty, and the whole thing swings like a monkey on a vine.
