Earcandy is about as pop as anything can get. This might seem like a good thing for indiepop fans, but there's something strange about the low-budget tweeness of the record -- every time a song hits a nice indie-pop stride, it seems like an accident, as if the band's incompetence is mirroring the calculated naivete of the indie scene. There is, however, a certain charm in this, and it's something akin to the Popinjays' best work -- once one accepts the utter tweeness of cheesiness of the songs, and accepts that they may be a bit more earnest than they should be, what's left is a collection of jangly hooks and cloyingly sweet but somehow appealing songs. ~ Nitsuh Abebe
