This Hubro disc of
Ketil Bjørnstad's early solo piano music is no more and no less than a set of 21 preludes and an eight-part impressionistic piece entitled "Pianology." While this music is nowhere near as satisfying nor as evocative as his many recordings for
ECM, it is nonetheless an introduction to the harmonic ideas that
Bjørnstad would employ on recordings such as The Sea,
The River, and even
Night Song years later. That is more a curiosity and worthy of a single listen rather than many. ~ Thom Jurek
