Havergal's second full-length,
Elettricita, treads similar post-rock waters as his 2001 release,
Lungs for the Race.
Elettricita's picking guitars and twinkling keys race around occasional backwards washes and straightforward beats, while
Ryan Murphy's talking, slightly off-key vocals grate to create tension. The repetitive nature of the music is wonderfully hypnotic. Unfortunately, the vocal delivery, in its conscious counter melody, takes a lot away from the meditative swirl of the music.
Havergal's laid-back groove with clunking piano tracks, single note guitar melody, lazy beats, and mellow vocals on "Burn Up the Bay" is a highlight of
Elettricita.
Havergal pulls familiar tricks throughout the album, but if you are a fan of slow moving repetition, this record may be for you. ~ David Serra
