With the exception of a few dull moments, this third installment of the
Emo Diaries saga is strong from start to finish. Bands such as
Starmarket,
Planes Mistaken for Stars, and Penfold all contribute powerful tracks of their own interpretation of the emo style. Penfold's track should be required listening for all people proclaiming to have a knowledge of what the term emo means. With its intimately dominant vocals which bleed romantically private lyrics, this band would be a good example for anyone wanting to become aware with this up and coming genre. Sweep the Leg Johnny showcase their brand of indie rock complete with the saxophone part for which have become known. While some of the material in the midst of the compilation is a bit weak, the Chase Theory, Epstein, and
Last Days of April all contribute dynamic and passionate tracks to help close the album out persuasively. A very convincing and solid release, this very well might be the peak of these celebrated compilations. ~ Kurt Morris
