Taking the crazed, vengeful, angsty geek persona to the max, California's
Martin Luther Lennon has truly created an excellent pop curiosity with
Escape to Paradox Island. The disc's ten tracks are divided up pretty evenly between punk-influenced fuzzed-out rockers and ballads, and there isn't a bad track here. The opening "Only Love" sounds a bit like the Supernaturals, and the buzzing "Go, She Said" is an unforgettable workout in slightly tongue-in-cheek, catchy pop.
Escape to Paradox Island is an album that could be found enjoyable both by fans of
Cheap Trick and
They Might Be Giants because of the mixture of razor-sharp hooks and quirky songcraft.
