The first release from the Boston MC's own label, Play Aktion,
Essential Akrobatik, Vol. 1 collects some of Akrobatic's greatest hits (many of which could previously be found on vinyl only), including the B-side from his first single, 1998's "Ruff Enuff," "Woman," the fantastic "Say Yes Say Word," "Internet MCs" (from his 2000 The EP), and "Remind My Soul" (from his 2003 LP
Balance). There's even one track from his work with
Mr. Lif as
the Perceptionists, "Memorial Day" (though
Lif also shows up on "Fat Shit"), which makes
Essential Akrobatik, Vol. 1 a pretty good overview of the rapper's career, one that should also work well for collectors who don't have all of his 12"s. ~ Marisa Brown
