Renowned philanthropist and Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen completed his debut album on Sony Legacy
Everywhere at Once, in 2013. This 13-song set of blues-based rock includes contributions from
Ann and
Nancy Wilson of
Heart,
Chrissie Hynde,
Joe Walsh, Derek Trucks,
Doyle Bramhall II, David Hidalgo of
Los Lobos, and Ivan Neville, alongside Allen's band the Underthinkers, featuring guitarist John Bohlinger, bass guitarist Doug Barnett, and vocalist Tim Pike. Allen began playing guitar at age 16, which coincided with the attendance of a concert by his main influence
Jimi Hendrix. While Allen either wrote or co-wrote all the tracks on the album, it's his stellar and flexible guitar work that is the highlight. Over the years, Allen has jammed alongside numerous blues and rock veterans, and holds his own in the company of musicians such as
Carlos Santana,
Buddy Guy,
Robbie Robertson, and
Ron Wood. Proceeds from sale of the album will go to fund educational programs at the charitable organization EMP Museum. ~ Al Campbell
