Heavily distorted vocals, pounding electro melodies, and complex basslines -- these are the marks of
Pulse Legion's remarkable EBM release,
Evolve. The sinister feel of
Evolve can be likened to early Mentallo and the Fixer, sharing Revelation 23's complex yet clean electronic sound. This does not mean to say that
Pulse Legion have not hit their own special mark.
Evolve is more geared to the dancefloor, taking its melodic tangents in a solid dance beat structure.
Evolve opens with some of its best tracks, particularly the harsh elegance of "Evolve" and the aggressive assualt of "Who Decides." From there,
Evolve walks the line between the relative quiet of tracks such as "Covet" and "Remains" (at times reminiscent of a harsher Fortification 55) and louder tracks like "Hideaway" (featuring some well-placed guitar riffs). There is enough going on in
Evolve to interest, and
Pulse Legion has brought enough of themselves to this release to keep it from falling by the wayside as just another EBM outfit. This release clearly marks
Pulse Legion as a band to be watched. ~ Theo Kavadias
