Mark O'Connor emerged initially on the music scene as a talented young bluegrass fiddler, but quickly demonstrated that he was also a formidable guitarist. By the time of the making of this unusual Rounder LP,
O'Connor was only 21 years old, yet he crafted eight stunning originals drawing from many diverse styles of music, while overdubbing himself on numerous different string instruments, with a bit of percussion and a brief organ passage thrown in as well. No longer pigeonholed solely as a bluegrass player, this fascinating music defies category, much like that of mandolin master
David Grisman (with whom
O'Connor played for a time). Particularly enjoyable is the delightful raga-influenced "Floating Bridge of Dreams." Long out of print, this LP is definitely worth searching for.
