Scarlxrd doesn't do subtleties. He sits somewhere between trap and metal with an ultra-piercing voice and volumes at full blast... When he made his breakthrough in 2017 with the track Heart Attack, he was an oddity in an English scene with calmer voices. His latest album, released in February 2020, gives pride of place to his hardcore side. But with this new four-track record FANTASY VXID; AUTUMN, the direction changes.
The first two tracks consist of much more melodic productions, in a perfect nu metal spirit. This trend, which you could occasionally hear emerging on his previous projects, takes the upper hand here, with guitar arpeggios and almost rock-like drums. And even though the next two tracks are stripped down to the essentials - screamed trap - the idea behind this EP is that of change. Which may well be confirmed over the course of his career. © Brice Miclet/Qobuz
