Fascinating Rhythm, a collection of traditional jazz, big-band numbers, and standards, lacks any documentation of where its recordings came from, the supporting performers, years, and so forth. It also suffers from fidelity issues throughout. Nevertheless, for a budget-line compilation, it's not bad. Big names like
Benny Goodman,
Nat King Cole,
Artie Shaw, and Ella Fitzgerald are all present and accounted for, and
Gene Krupa's rattling, rousing "Drum Boogie" is always a favorite.
Fascinating Rhythm isn't actually very fascinating, but it will offer a few cheap thrills.
