Fast Forward finds
Defleshed departing from its previously dominant Florida death-metal influence (think
Morbid Angel or
Deicide) and returning to its roots, embracing the sounds of both its native Sweden (à la early Entombed) and genre forefathers
Slayer. Beneath the surface chaos, the album has a determined rhythmic drive and a sustained intensity that demonstrates what a tight, skilled ensemble
Defleshed is. It isn't especially groundbreaking, but
Fast Forward more than lives up to its title.
