This performance by Great Britain's Zenith Hot Stompers and featured guest
Wally Fawkes is quite exuberant, spirited, and joyful. The tune selection is inspired (among the many highlights are "Isle of Capri," "African Queen," "Come on and Stomp, Stomp, Stomp," and "On Treasure Island") and the four-horn, two-clarinet front line is consistently exciting; clarinetists
Fawkes (who doubles on soprano) and Roy Hubbard work together very well. Creative frameworks, tempo variations, and plenty of both individual and group fireworks make this a particularly memorable effort. Trad jazz fans, who should be very well aware of Stomp Off's rich catalog, will definitely want this jubilant outing. ~ Scott Yanow
