Fifty Reasons to Explode by Schatzi - DeepRiffs

The indie pop movement has a large contingent of artists that sound like Weezer, and Schatzi is no exception. The old argument could be made about having the same influences, but it is hard not to compare two bands when they sound that much alike. Schatzi has a mildly more emotive singer, but he doesn't have the subtle nuances that make Rivers Cuomo as good as he is. Otherwise, you can expect the Weezer brand of indie pop from this four piece. They are pretty good at it, making tracks like "Bionic Waves" and "Gladys" sound quite good and catchy. But for every song like that, there are two like "The Spider Smells Disaster," a very average track that simply exists for a few minutes before making room for the next track. Whether it be the obvious direction of the music or the repetitiveness of the album, these songs bring the album down with them. As it stands, Fifty Reasons to Explode is a great album title for a very average album. Fans of indie pop may want to check this out; others need not apply. ~ Bradley Torreano
