Danish tenor saxophonist
Bent Jaedig has elements of
Dexter Gordon and
Sonny Stitt in his style, while still sounding fairly original within the hard bop genre. This CD has well-recorded private tapes from his collection, none of which were released before.
Jaedig is heard with three quartets, a piano-less trio, teaming up with trombonist/singer
Richard Boone for two songs, and on a short piece with saxophonist Niels Husum's septet. Among the key sidemen are pianist
Tete Montoliu (who is on the first two numbers), bassist
Niels Pedersen, and
Boone, but
Jaedig is the main star throughout. Fine straight-ahead music from a saxophonist not known much in the United States. ~ Scott Yanow
