1990's
Golden Years 1960 is a disappointing oldies collection with a promising track listing that, unfortunately, features only two original recordings among its ten tracks. The originals --
Kathy Young's "A Thousand Stars" and
the Hollywood Argyles' "Alley Oop" -- still sound great, especially compared to the weak re-recordings that surround it. Tired, overworked versions of
Chubby Checker's "The Twist,"
Bobby Rydell's "Wild One" and
the Shirelles' "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" lack the impact and nostalgia of the original renditions of these songs. This collection really can't be recommended to anyone, especially since far better '60s pop compilations have come out since its release. ~ Heather Phares
