This 18-track collection compiles the notable sides
Johnny Maestro and
the Crests recorded for the New York-based Coed label. Although their debut single -- the doo wop collector favorite "My Juanita," originally released on the Joyce label -- isn't aboard, all of their biggies like the classic "16 Candles," "Six Nights a Week," "The Angels Listened In," "A Year Ago Tonight," "Step By Step," and "Trouble in Paradise" more than pick up the slack. The transfers are excellent, many of them amazingly in true stereo. There's a reason that this mixed group of four African-Americans and a white Italian lead singer is so revered by doo wop collectors, and here's where you'll find their legacy.
