German rapper Marteria alternates his time between his "official" rap persona and his pothead alter ego Marsimoto, a high-pitched character he created while playing with an effects device. After the success of his 2010 album Zum Glück in die Zukunft, he once again disguised himself as Marsimoto to release Grüner Samt, a follow-up to the 2008 album Zu Zweit Allein. Produced by Marsimoto's usual collaborators (Kid Simius, Nobody's Face, Dead Rabbit, Robot Koch, the Krauts), who provide a dub-influenced, futuristic backing, the album showcases the rapper's ironic sense of humor and his barrage of pop culture references. Grüner Samt charted at number three in Germany and is also available as a limited edition with two bonus tracks.
