Harkonen's take on hardcore is more angular, ugly, and (seemingly) emotionally intense than the usual high-speed, metallic variety. The tempos are slowed down, sometimes to a stuck-in-a-tar pit pace that would suit Black Sabbath (or, for that matter, the Melvins), and the songs follow obtuse, nonlinear paths, loaded with dissonance and throat-tearing vocals, which scream to be heard above the suffocating din. The band rarely commit to a riff long enough to even suggest a pattern -- which creates a certain cut-and-paste randomness to the material -- and there is an almost total lack of melodic content. This is difficult stuff to get through, and will probably alienate all but the most devoted listeners. ~ Andy Hinds
