Taking a step backward from their 1982 release One False Move, Harlequin's lackluster self-titled album did little to ignite the interest of the already minute fan base that still existed. Awash in layered synthesizers, the only single, "Take This Heart," is by far the liveliest tune on the album. The heavy rock flavor that bolstered the last album is replaced with candy-coated melodies and shallow new wave keyboards, taking away any oomph this band had. Belanger's voice comes across as echoey and one-dimensional, while the lyrics on every song remain typical pop drivel. Harlequin tried to cash in on the techno pop sound that enveloped the early part of the decade, but instead found themselves at the end of their brief career.
