Seventy-four at the time of this release,
Chris Connor's already deep voice has gotten lower through the years. She is in relatively good form through the set, performing ten standards that include "By Myself,"
Claude Thornhill's "Snowfall," "Only the Lonely," and "I Wished on the Moon." Although there are a few medium-tempo numbers,
Connor's strength at this point in time was in her no-nonsense if occasionally wistful interpretations of ballads. She is assisted by pianist/arranger
Michael Abene, trumpeter
Ingrid Jensen, tenor saxophonist
Bill Easley, and a fine rhythm section. A successful effort. ~ Scott Yanow
