Though it's missing one of their finest moments (namely "Positive Education"),
Slam's LP debut is a near-perfect summation of British techno circa the midpoint of the decade. While tracks like "Emotive" and "White Shadows" capture the mood of techno's stateside progenitors (with the expected focus on driving beatwork), while still forecasting other developments in music: breakbeat techno on "Low Life" and "First Bass," more minimal output with "Free Fall," and increasingly shadowy material with "Dark Forces." ~ John Bush
