If love is indeed a battlefield, then these two-dozen hillbilly rarities are missives from the front, outlining the downside casualties and tragedies of it all. Titles like "I'd Rather Die for My Country (Than Live with My Wife)" by
Red River Dave and "Pukin' My Heart Out Over You" by the Three Shif'less Skonks pretty much set the table for what's here, and it's funny, sure, and definitely on the absurd side, but a bit like a one-trick pony where the joke is that love is a living hell. And it might well be, but there are plenty of songs out there that tip the scale toward heaven and the angels. You just won't find any of those songs here. ~ Steve Leggett
