The Surfaris'
Hit City '64 album was one of the final gasps of strong American surf recordings, released as the British Invasion was changing the musical landscape forever. Originally released on the Decca label, this is a fun mixture of
Trashmen/
Kingsmen surf instrumentals and rowdy frat rock. Along with goofy cover versions of "Be True to Your School," "Little Deuce Coupe," "Louie, Louie," and "Sugar Shack," it also contains the blazing surf instrumentals "Scatter Shield" and "Earthquake." A majority of these songs have been reissued on the CDs
Surfaris Stomp and
Wipe Out: Best of the Surfaris, both available on Varese Sarabande.
