Home, singer and songwriter
Jami Smith's follow-up project to her self-titled debut, was released in August 2001. Recorded live at
Smith's alma mater, Oklahoma Baptist University, the project includes 11 worship songs. The album combines praise and worship choruses, both those
Smith penned in addition to cover tracks such as "Lord Reign in Me" and "Be the Centre," with acoustic rock and CCM styles. Original songs include "Glory and Joy" and "Beautiful Lovely Jesus," which liken
Smith to CCM artists
Jennifer Knapp and
Kim Hill. Of the lyrical content,
Smith says, "The lyrics are pretty simple. I want them to be accessible...almost like a prayer breathed in worship." In fact, the guitar chords for all of the songs are included in the album's jacket, allowing listeners to incorporate the songs into their own worship services. Overall,
Home is a heartfelt, passionately driven album. With it,
Smith provides both a worship album for the individual to use in quiet moments and a resource for worship leaders. ~ Ashleigh Kittle
