Boasting a more lavish production than his secular albums,
Homecoming in Heaven is
George Jones' second collection of gospel songs. The majority of the songs on the album are newly written, including selections from
Willie Nelson,
J.P. Richardson (
the Big Bopper), and
George himself.
Pappy Daily has assembled a choir to support
Jones, which places the music somewhere between traditional, stripped-down country gospel and polished, Nashville country-pop.
George is in good voice throughout, but there are only two genuine classics on the album, "Wings of a Dove" and "Peace in the Valley," which are both available on Liberty's more consistent collection
All-Time Greatest Hits.
