Hope Rising, like many of the songs, is transparent in its meaning. The band makes no question about its desire to be a positive influence. And they hit at their best in moments like the pensive "Arms That Hold the Universe," which was written as a tribute to the congregation in Maryville, IL, following a deadly church shooting in March 2009. Throughout the disc, the band's songcraft seems to be on point; the only thing that keeps this album from being even more memorable is the lack of a distinct lyrical depth. With that said,
Hope Rising is a thoroughly enjoyable worship experience, as is to be expected from Fee's seasoned namesake. ~ Jared Johnson
