Ed Van Fleet of Synchestra fame continues to drive his one-man-band sound into unexpected territory. Revving into gear are the two album-openers, "Watch over Us" and "Forever Onward," which have a distinctly commercial, uptempo percussion edge a la
Jan Hammer. "Starry Night" and "Yesterdays" downshift into the land of the lush and the majestic with sweeping strings, gentle harp and whimsical flute. From there "Transmutation" cruises into a rather ambient sci-fi suspense-filled expanse. Ending the journey are "Praying for Rain" and "Horizons," which have both a romantic and dramatic feel similar to
David Arkenstone or Richard Burmer. It's hard to believe this rich and diverse album was created by just one man and his synthesizers. ~ Heartbeats
