Ruder Than You decided to walk a fine line between '60s first-wave ska and '80s dancehall reggae. The instrumentals and somewhat random covers which include
Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" and
Prince Buster's "Beg You Little More" provide some decent listening. However, the dueling vocals of Freddy Weaver and Doug Dobrosky on the dance tracks "Uncle Albert" and "Not Deaf Yet" showcase the bands ability to craft catchy upbeat tunes. Although dubbed
Horny for Ska this album is also likely to appeal those more accustomed to mainstream reggae looking for something different. ~ Curtis Zimmermann
