These Immortal Souls make a big leap from Rowland Howard's previous work in the seminal
Birthday Party, taking their raw darkness in a far more polished direction that manages to avoid seeming campy.
I'm Never Gonna Die Again is a well-handled and incredibly dramatic record that attacks with full rock force, recedes into minimal, haunting constructions, and then blasts back. This well-crafted, dynamic approach keeps the album from ever falling into the flaws of the genre, and makes for a sprawling adventure through a somewhat surreal vein of rock.
