Very similar to the Icon 2 compilation released later,
Icons is a two-disc anthology that selects highlights from
Marvin Gaye's discography that span the early '60s through the early '80s. When the set was released, copies tended to be sold at a price roughly equivalent to that of one full-price disc, which added more appeal, though the presentation leaves a bit to be desired. Among the essential soul classics here are "Your Precious Love," "Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)," "Got to Give It Up," and the ain'ts: "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing," and "Ain't That Peculiar." ~ Andy Kellman
