I, Ludicrous's fourth album, and a step up in sound quality and production values, features more synths than anything previous and cleverer arrangements (double-tracked vocals, piano, polyrhythms). The drum machine still clunks and blips along, not to worry. The usual targets of the lyrics are here, too: morons in the workplace ("Oh, Really" and "When the Computer Engineer Comes"), football (the understatement of purpose "We Stand Around"), and media satire ("Carter, They're Unstoppable," a "sour grapes" gripe against
Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine who, they claim, ripped off their act, "Eastenders"). There's even an account of playing live, opening for
the Fall ("Bloody Proud"). The trouble with most of the songs, like those of the previous album, is that they outstay their welcome long before they finish, especially important in such comedy-based work. ~ Ted Mills
