k.d. lang followed her immensely successful torch-heavy album
Ingenue with the ambient and quirky
All You Can Eat. The first single from the album was the spacy, airy "If I Were You," and its maxi-single came with three remixes, including one by famed remixer
Junior Vasquez. The single starts with the album version and goes into the "Smokin' Lounge Mix," which is a "loungier" take on the song, with heavier percussion, but still just as airy as the original. The "Main Mix" is a dance mix that recalls early-'90s Italo-house, with instrumentals reminiscent of Black Box. "Junior's X-Beat Mix" takes the song into a dizzying, disco landscape, endlessly looping her voice over and over, and to the non-dance fan this might translate into an immediate foray into madness. The single closes with the album track "Get Some." With this maxi-single,
lang continued her tradition of providing her dance fans with club versions of her hits. And mark my word, this is by no means country music. ~ Jose F. Promis
