Since debuting in 2007 with the Juno-winning The Revolution, Belly has released numerous full-length projects, but
IMMIGRANT, issued over a decade later, bears the designation of the rapper's second proper album. Belly has always written about issues such as cultural displacement relating to his family's immigration to Canada from Palestine, but he takes it to a new level here, compelled by increasingly xenophobic political and social climates. Fellow Canadians the Weeknd and Nav make appearances, as do the likes of Meek Mill and M.I.A. (both of whom are on the title track), Metro Boomin, and French Montana. A wealth of lighter playboy material is mixed up with the purposeful moments.
