The latest album by musician, composer, scholar of medieval music and hospice worker Therese Schroeder-Sheker is primarily a celebration of devotion. While two Christmas carols are included here, several of the pieces revolve around the theme of devotion to the Virgin Mary, both as the Blessed Mother and as a mythological link to the nature goddesses of pre-Christian times. The tunes range from the 12th to the 20th century, include three originals, and are variously sung in English, Latin and German. There is one enchanting Renaissance piece played on recorders, but for the most part she uses only her harp to accompany her achingly pure and angelic soprano voice. Poignant, reverential, heartfelt and uplifting, In Dulci Jubilo fulfills the liner notes' suggestion for one of the pieces: "maybe we can hear both heaven and earth, singing praise in the winter sky."
