Going scattershot pays dividends on
Into the Sun, the very varied 2015 album from
Bassnectar and one of most satisfying releases from the heavy electro producer to date. It's especially satisfying when wearing headphones, as interludes and slowly developing tracks dot the album with moments that aren't so dancefloory, although aggressive and bass-heavy highlights like "The Mystery Spot" and the ridiculously fun "Blow" (it sounds like Cookie Monster singing a trap song) could certainly rip the speakers at high volume. Like previous releases, the album is divided between
Bassnectar productions and remix work for other artists, but what's new this time out are the "2015 Remixes," with old
Bassnectar cuts like "Breathing" getting interesting updates. Try one of his tight and lean EPs for a taster, then come back for a full-length EDM ride worth taking.
