It Happened in the Sixties has an intriguing approach -- dividing the disc into five subsections of Surfin', Drag Racing, The Twist, The Merseybeat, and The Hippies and then providing songs by four period artists in each category. But the problem here is that, with the exception of "Surfin' Bird" by
the Trashmen and "It Ain't Me Babe" by
the Turtles, all of the songs are re-recorded versions done by "one or more members of the original group," meaning these aren't the original hits. It's really too bad, because the concept here is interesting. ~ Steve Leggett
