This 1994 Soul Note release is one of Max Roach's most experimental outings. Always in search of new sounds, new forms, and new vistas in jazz, Roach teams up with poet Bruce Wright and others to create what is probably one of the most unique holiday albums.

IT'S CHRISTMAS AGAIN features two tracks, essentially a free-form jam session that rumbles rather sporadically underneath Wright's stream-of-consciousness poetry. On the title track, Roach even sings in counterpoint with Wright, against a background of bird noises. For all those who enjoy musical oddities and irregular verse, IT'S CHRISTMAS AGAIN delivers.
