Although many of the names on this release might be unfamiliar to jazz fans as a whole, traditional jazz and swing lovers will devour this very enjoyable date. The jam session on this live CD occurred during the 1999 IAJRC convention in Hamburg, featuring
Engelbert Wrobel (clarinet, tenor sax, and soprano sax) and Frank Roberscheuten (clarinet, tenor sax, and alto sax), two musicians who are quite familiar with each other's playing, along with a pickup rhythm section of pianist Chris Hopkins, bassist Harvey Weston, and drummer Bobby Worth. The selections are fairly standard for the genre, including "You Do Something to Me," "I Can't Get Started," and "I Surrender Dear," all of which (along with the remaining tracks) are played with inspiration and enthusiasm by this talented group that was thrown together with little time to rehearse.
