Luther Lackey is part of the Southern soul-blues scene that revolves around the so-called "chitlin circuit." While JODY'S GOT MY PROBLEMS utilizes the blend of '60s/'70s-style classic Southern soul and lo-fi drum-machine-and-synth grooves that are part and parcel of the genre, Lackey brings some distinctive touches of his own to the mix. For instance, some of the arrangement touches here sound like they could have come off early-'80s Prince or Michael Jackson albums, and Lackey's light-hearted feel in both his lyrics and his vocal delivery suggests a soul man with some prankster in him.
