KHORA, the latest album from noise musicians Aufhehoben, challenges listeners with its very first track, “Ignorance Oblivion Contempt,” a blistering meltdown of crackling, hissing discord. Elsewhere, the noise takes the form of clanking scrap steel and a menacing throb of industrial machinery on the 10-minute-plus “A Bastard Reasoning” as well as “Jederfürsich.” Throughout, patterns and rhythms do emerge that tether the music to a recognizable sound world, avant-garde as it is. It isn’t pop, but it isn’t chaos for its own sake, either.
