After some ill-received forages into zouk on their previous album,
Malavoi have decided to stick with the mellow, delicate sound that crosses Cuban charanga with earlier Martiniquan stras. Not that they're in any time warp -- there's some quite effective synthesizers in spots, and a lot of kick in the rhythm section. A couple of cuts don't make it, including the title track. But five elegant successes out of seven ain't bad, and it's always nice to hear from the French Antilles's more neglected idioms.
