Remember the dance craze,
La Chunga, started by this album and the
Arthur Murray dance studios? No? It is one of Prado's very best albums, nevertheless. It has everything from
Rockambo but with better-paced, more fully developed tunes, and more, much better vocals. Despite the incidental new-dance-craze trappings, it really is his peak album, but one too often overlooked. And poor
Arthur Murray. Inventing a new dance (the liners claim it's based on a game
Prado remembered from childhood in Cuba) is presumptuous, but the strength of the music makes the attempt more than welcome.
