Released on the Hypnos Recordings label in 1999,
Landscape in Obscurity is a recording that was released some time after the it was initially recorded.
Vidna Obmana, in the liner notes, states that the project came about almost ten years prior to its release, recorded as a series of live performances with Italian musicians Capriola Trifoglio and Diego Borotti.
Obmana, hungry for a new release, got the idea of recycling this older recorded music into a single-movement, long-running ambient composition. His idea was near perfect, as he blended in the sounds of Trifolio's flute and Borotti's saxophone. The piece runs together well. In places it seems like
Obmana has just looped a 15- or 20-minute excerpt but the music is still good and interesting.
Landscape in Obscurity is very representative of Obmana's work, with the exception of some of his more tribally-influenced work. ~ Matt Borghi
