When Marisela emerged in the late '80s, the Latin pop singer was compared to Madonna more than anyone -- not only because of her bleach-blond hair and sexy outfits, but also, because of her girlish vocal style. Like Madonna, Marisela doesn't have a great range; unlike Madonna, however, she doesn't have great material to work with -- likable generally, but definitely not breathtaking. In contrast to the hard-edged Latin rock that was emerging around the same time, songs like "O Me Quieres, O Me Dejas," "Ya No" (which became a hit thanks to its inclusion the film Salsa) and "Amarte Es Genial" are pure, unadulterated pop with an abundance of sweetness. There isn't much depth to this CD, but then, depth isn't what Marisela was aiming for.
