Although it appears under his own name (on the English Touch label),
Mark Van Hoen's Last Flowers from the Darkness is not so far off from his Locust and
Scala material, combining resonant, somewhat dark ambient with fractured beats and detailed rhythmic and melodic textures. The first eight pieces on
Flowers are the head-nodders of the lot -- a mixture of downbeat breaks and fast, jungly rhythms -- with the ninth and final track a sprawling, more than 20-minute opus of minimalist environmental ambient. ~ Sean Cooper
